A two-story Hindu temple built on a 9-acre parcel in Shrewsbury, MA, the journey of Sri Sri Radha Damodar Mandir began in November 2019 and culminated with its grand inauguration on July 4, 2023. Here’s a look at the key phases of this sacred construction journey:
Vision & Groundwork
The journey of Sri Sri Radha Damodar Mandir began in November 2019 with the acquisition of a beautiful 9-acre parcel of land in Shrewsbury, MA. This marked the foundation of a vision to build a sacred space for worship, community, and culture. By March 2020, architects completed the detailed temple design, balancing traditional Vaishnava architecture with modern functionality. A key breakthrough came in August 2020, when the town planning board approved the site plan, granting formal permission for development. The following month, a general contractor was selected, setting the stage for construction.
Laying the Foundation
With all major permits finalized in early 2021, including building and zoning clearances, the project moved confidently into the construction phase. The land was cleared and graded, utility systems were roughed in, and by late 2021, the foundation was poured, firmly establishing the temple’s physical presence on the land. These preparatory works were critical to support the large, two-story structure that was to follow.
Structure and Aesthetics
In mid-2022, the temple began to rise skyward as the main framing and roofing were completed, giving devotees and visitors their first view of the mandir’s final shape. Over the next few months, the team focused on exterior finishes—including siding, windows, landscaping, and connection to essential utilities like electricity and water. The temple's timeless beauty began to emerge with every added detail.
A Spiritual Home is Born
The interior transformation began in early 2023, with the completion of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, flooring, and painting. The sacred altar and inner sanctum were installed with care and reverence. Following final inspections in June, all safety and building codes were approved. At last, on July 4, 2023, Sri Sri Radha Damodar Mandir was formally inaugurated, opening its doors as a beacon of devotion, community, and culture in the heart of Shrewsbury.
My encounter with spirituality at the temple was the first in my life while it is also the best
I feel extremely grateful for the invitation to attend the festival celebrations at the temple.
I was thoroughly impressed by the beautiful decorations, soulful music, the depth of devotion, and the warm and welcoming atmosphere that surrounded me.
The food is so delicious I recommend everyone to visit this place for an enriching spiritual experience.
I am thrilled by the opportunities that this temple is creating to preserve, spread and support the Vedic culture and the teachings of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
